URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MEMPHIS TN
346 AM CST TUE JAN 25 2011
...ANOTHER WINTER STORM TO IMPACT THE MIDSOUTH TONIGHT...
.A VERY DYNAMIC AND MOIST SYSTEM DEVELOPING ALONG THE LOUISIANA
COAST THIS MORNING WILL TRACK EAST NORTHEAST INTO SOUTHERN GEORGIA
TONIGHT. PRECIPITATION WILL SPREAD NORTH ACROSS THE MIDSOUTH
THROUGH EARLY AFTERNOON. DUE TO WARM AIR CURRENTLY IN PLACE...
PRECIPITATION WILL REMAIN RAIN THROUGH EARLY AFTERNOON. COLDER AIR
WILL THEN INVADE THE MIDSOUTH ON THE BACKSIDE OF THE SYSTEM AND
WILL GRADUALLY TURN THE RAIN TO SNOW FROM NORTHWEST TO SOUTHEAST
LATE THIS AFTERNOON AND THIS EVENING.
AT THIS POINT...
THE BEST ESTIMATE FOR PLACEMENT OF THE HEAVIEST
SNOW WILL BE ALONG AND NEAR A LINE FROM HOLLY SPRINGS MISSISSIPPI
AND SOMERVILLE TENNESSEE...TO JACKSON...SAVANNAH...AND DECATURVILLE
TENNESSEE. THIS IS WHERE THE COLD AIR SHOULD INTERACT WITH THE
MOST INTENSE PRECIPITATION. IF THE COLDER AIR CAN ARRIVE EVEN A
COUPLE HOURS SOONER AS SOME SOLUTIONS ARE SUGGESTING...THEN
THE
WINTER STORM WARNING MAY NEED TO BE EXPANDED...POSSIBLY TO
INCLUDE THE MEMPHIS METRO AREA.
THESE TYPES OF SYSTEMS ALWAYS HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO PRODUCE EITHER
VERY HEAVY SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OR VERY LITTLE SNOW ACCUMULATIONS
DEPENDING UPON THE ARRIVAL OF THE COLD AIR. GIVEN THE STRONG
DYNAMICS AND THE BANDING POTENTIAL OF THE SNOWFALL..SNOWFALL
ACCUMULATIONS EXCEEDING 8 INCHES ARE POSSIBLE IN THE WARNING
AREA.
